Fifth meeting
Premiere of The Nose of the Cigar

A joint meeting of the club and the FUMELIER Cigar School premiered a perfumery tool created to develop aficionados’ tasting skills.
The presentation took place on March 28 at the new Fumador lounge inside the Babylon Mall firearms centre. The idea had emerged in November 2025 during the third FUMELIER class and, by its early-spring premiere, had become a finished tool for practical sensory training.
The room was organised around an ‘island of aromas’ — a table holding two perfumery tasting sets. Opening the meeting, club chairman and school lecturer Dmitry Gribov framed the evening as a challenge in awareness: the cigar was to be treated not only as a pleasure, but also as an object of serious study.
Professional perfumer Yulia Salikhova presented the project and its collection of cigar aromas. Artyom Chelobaev welcomed the guests on behalf of Fumador and announced the main prize, a shooting-range certificate; questionnaires and mystery cigars were then distributed.
At 8 p.m. the blind tasting began with twenty-five fundamental cigar-smoker aromas. The sets circulated between the groups, each of which had five minutes to calibrate its senses and search for the most delicate nuances in the tobacco leaf.
The intellectual contest brought together CONNOISSEUR members and students from the school’s fourth class. Writer and renowned spirits and cigar expert Erkin Tuzmukhamedov delivered an original lecture on the world of tobacco aromas.
The rules demanded complete concentration: versions could not be discussed, and participants could return to The Nose of the Cigar to compare individual scents with the vitola’s flavour and aroma. A raised hand signalled that a questionnaire was complete.
The mystery cigar was Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills. No one named the exact cigar, but five participants — both club members and school students — correctly identified its Cuban origin and received prizes.
At the awards, FUMELIER director and club initiator Denis Kibisov reminded the audience that true cigar enjoyment lies in attention to detail, while tasting skill is built through constant practice. A group photograph closed another shared chapter in the club and school’s history.
