Deceiving the Senses: The Magic of the Wrapper

The anniversary meeting explored a fundamental question: how much does the wrapper determine a cigar’s taste, and how much is our perception shaped by visual expectations?
For the experiment, Anton Reyes created cigars with the same filler and three different wrappers — Maduro, Colorado and Claro. Members smoked the first third wearing lightproof masks and relied entirely on their senses.
The experiment revealed how strongly appearance shapes expectations while also confirming the wrapper’s significant influence on flavour. Only two participants matched every wrapper with the correct cigar profile.
